A day in Dublin

Hello my Dears!

Hope you're keeping well :-) Despite having lived in Dublin for quite a while now, I still like to look at it through the eyes of a tourist or an outsider, and to take pictures of its streets, people or spaces I come across (even though I may have seen them many times before). The pictures in this post were all taken during one sunny day in Dublin and, keeping with the spirit of the blog, represent the stuff which makes me happy. Enjoy! :-)

Walking on the beach...

 Walking around Dublin...

For the best spaghetti carbonara go to The Steps of Rome :-)

So here it is, Dublin the way I see it. There will be more :-)

Designist

Hello lovelies!

If you've read the little "about me" part of the blog, you know I'm a foreigner :-) and I've made Dublin my home. I believe it is important to take care of and support your home, wherever it may be, which is why I buy Irish products when possible - and why I've come up with this post.

Designist is a shop where you get to experience Irish design - and humour - first hand. Whether you're looking for an interesting piece for your home or an unusual present for your friend - this is the place to go. I've bought a few things in there myself (like the adorable milk carton cover, see pics) and would recommend it to everybody; you should definitely check out the Northside/Sothside/Countryside T-shirts ;-)

So there you go, one of Dublin's gems, right in the centre (68 South Great Georges St), filled with inspired and inspiring gifts. From the shop's website:

"We imagined filling the market for gift & homeware with products developed by an identifiable designer. In our store you won’t find generic mass produced objects. You will pick up an item, find out about its designer and really engage with the product. Every single thing has a story, no product is average. Living with our products may not solve the world’s problems but will make your day to day life more interesting."

Happy shopping! :-)

Manchester trip - the Trafford Centre

Hello my dears!

This is the last post about Manchester - and the most consumerism-oriented one :-) I'm not shy about admitting that I love to shop and there are lots of places to do it in Dublin, from fancy Brown Thomas to you-never-know-what-you'll-find charity shops, and everything in between. But Manchester takes it to a whole new level with their Trafford Centre... I mean, I thought I went to Dubai for a day! It's so big, so over the top and so borderline kitschy (actually often crossing the border...) that I had to do a separate post about it. So here it goes, feast your eyes :-)

Yes, this is the main entrance

The palm trees were real!

Totally owning the chair @Victoria's Secret store :-)

The Centre is linked with a Sea Life aquarium exhibition which is definitely worth seeing, unless you're totally not into anything "fishy" :-)

Like everything else in the building, the walkway was designed to impress (whether in a good or bad way...) and it looks like this:
